Hiroshima-based COC Studio presents SHOPKIT, a mobile store inspired by DIY furniture. This lightweight structure, made from wood, steel, and polycarbonate, is designed for easy assembly and disassembly, allowing it to be moved and reassembled across various urban locations. Drawing from Japanese design principles, it embraces simplicity and functionality, featuring a welcoming split shop curtain that serves both as a sunshade and a traditional icon.

Created to replace a building undergoing reconstruction, SHOPKIT has found a new purpose by activating vacant spaces around Hiroshima, particularly in parks near the city’s rivers. Its adaptable design prioritizes mobility, storability, and functionality, offering a versatile, eco-friendly approach to urban retail. COC Studio’s innovation transforms empty lots into vibrant social and commercial hubs.

Tomohisa Suzuki & COC

COC Studio, led by Tomohisa Suzuki in Hiroshima, adopts a design philosophy blending simplicity with agility. Their work highlights modularity, portability, and user-focused features — exemplified by the'SHOPKIT' mobile pop-up retail concept made from wood, steel, and polycarbonate, which can be easily assembled, disassembled, and relocated.

The studio employs basic geometric shapes and arrangements to craft welcoming, adaptable spaces that suit modern urban life. Their method honours traditional Japanese minimalism while emphasising practical versatility: lightweight structures that easily shift between furniture and architectural scales, supporting commerce, social interaction, and mobility in innovative ways. Without unnecessary decoration, COC Studio reimagines environment design as a dynamic, evolving response to varying needs, all maintaining clarity, coherence, and subtle elegance.

COC Studio(主理人鈴木智久,位於廣島)秉持「簡約靈活」的設計理念。
