Our vision

Sustainable

Our mission is to advance the advancement and implementation of sustainable materials and to raise awareness about sustainability by showcasing beautiful designs. Materials are intrinsic to our daily existence, but as ecological and social concerns mount, choosing sustainable materials is pivotal. We aspire to explore ways to safeguard our planet’s environment through materials.

Craft work

Craftwork is intertwined, as each material possesses unique features, such as texture, colour, and hardness, that influence the artwork's aesthetics and style. Contemporary artists, for instance, employ industrial materials to convey their viewpoints on modern society. Additionally, the selection of materials is often connected to cultural and historical contexts. We remain steadfast in our commitment to showcasing beautiful works highlighting the essential role of materials in artistic creation.

Community

Social and communal ties are paramount to our platform. We endeavour to foster connections among more artists and designers, establish partnerships with local communities, support charitable initiatives, assist regional organisations, and contribute to diverse communities and groups. Moreover, we aim to raise awareness about the significance of sustainable development through knowledge-sharing and interactive discussions on our forum.

Technology

Innovation in science and technology is an essential driver of sustainable societies in the future. This encompasses a range of areas, including enhancing energy efficiency, advocating for renewable energy and education, and addressing issues such as environmental change and natural disasters. As we chart a new direction for the platform, we aim to incorporate more digital and intelligent technologies, critical enablers for realising many of our objectives. Furthermore, we seek to introduce new content and foster innovation and creativity to advance human civilisation and propel progress.

Our Team

Iris Chen — Editorial Director

Iris shapes Art and Materials Lab into a curated issue drop and a searchable Art and Materials knowledge base. She sets the editorial mission, tone, commissioning direction, and final publication standards—keeping every story readable, credible, and consistent with Art and Materials Lab’s trust-first publishing approach.

Sienna Wu — Materials Editor / Research Lead

Sienna is the credibility engine behind Art and Materials Lab’s materials coverage. She turns material performance, fabrication constraints, durability, and environmental claims into writing that is both accessible and defensible—then structures it so every piece can feed your Materials Index.

Alex Harper — Producer (Editorial Operations)

Alex turns great content into a reliable publication. He runs workflow, schedule, QA gates, image and rights checks, and the packaging for web, newsletter, and social—so Art and Materials Lab publishes like a real magazine, not an irregular blog.

Agnes Lin — Project Manager

Agnes Lin is the publishing engine that keeps Art and Materials Lab’s Issue Drops and collaborations running smoothly. She translates editorial vision into a workable timeline, coordinates everyone involved, and protects quality gates—so every piece ships on time with clean credits, clean rights, and clear boundaries between editorial and partnership content.

Ievy Lin — Art Manager

Ievy Lin protects the platform's visual credibility and makes it instantly recognisable. Her role curates imagery like an editor—not just pretty pictures, but visuals that explain material texture, process, and detail. They set image standards, oversee commissions and licensing, and shape how each story feels across web, social, and issue-style layouts.

Ethan Liu — Journalist (Architecture & Materials)

Art and Materials Lab needs journalism that reads beautifully and stands up to scrutiny. Ethan interviews and invites makers, designers, artists, and material innovators, then turns the process details—tools, constraints, decisions, failures—into human, evidence-led stories.

“ You ” — Journalist / Editor

Yes, this is you.

We are always looking for telnet Journalist/Editor who can write vivid, human, evidence-led stories. You’ll interview makers and studios, capture process truth (including constraints and failures), and translate materials and fabrication into accessible writing that’s not watered down. Our stories aren’t just nice features—they’re built to be referenced, indexed, and revisited.
