In her new collection Self Portrait, designer Airy Chen, founder of the jewellery brand Reflection, explores an intimate dialogue between psychology and emotion. Drawing on the concept of the Looking-Glass Self—the idea that we come to know ourselves through how we are reflected in others—and the Inner Child, the earliest self that longs to be seen and accepted, she turns the collection into a quiet study of identity.
Each piece is imagined as a moment of self-discovery. True to the name Reflection, her jewellery becomes a mirror of the self: where solid meets hollow, sight turns inward, and closed eyes awaken.
Crafted entirely in sterling silver, the pieces contrast matte and polished surfaces, open and closed eyes, and hollow and solid forms, using texture to express the tension between inner and outer worlds.
The Mirror Gazing Ring, inspired by the Looking-Glass Self theory, appears as a hollow silhouette with open eyes fixed on a triad of sparkling dots—a symbol of one’s own reflection. The Inner Child Ring, cocoon-like in form, suggests a gentle return to an earliest truth held safely at the centre.
Through these shifting forms, Airy Chen allows the outer gaze to meet the inner voice—until a quiet self-portrait comes into focus.

Mirror Gazing Ring的靈感來自鏡中自我理論，以鏤空的輪廓和睜開的雙眼構成，凝視著三點閃耀的光芒——象徵自我映照的瞬間。
Inner Child Ring（內在小孩戒） 則取材自關照內在自我的概念，繭狀的造型象徵冥想般回到最初的真實，在牆面內冥想，被柔和而安全地包覆於中心。
在這些流動的形體中，外在的凝視與內在的聲音相遇—— 最終，靜靜勾勒出一幅自我肖像成形。

Airy Chen
Airy Chen is a jewellery principle designer in Reflection. After graduating BA in visual communication design from the Taiwan University of Arts, She studied the MA communication design course in Central Saint Martins to explore more possibilities of visual communication and envision myself.
She is fascinated with vintage, Japanese patterns and Bohemian-style things. Her favourite artists are Laura Laine and Peter Doig. The inspiration for her works is mainly from mother nature and my observation and comprehension of daily life. Watercolour, pastel and collage are the medium she often applied in illustration and graphic works. She believes in the charms of hand drawing.
Reflection is an online artistic lifestyle brand focusing on minimal, timeless jewellery and print design for garments and accessories. We select, design, and curate the collection, inspired by the Japanese Wabi-Sabi aesthetic value, the Minimal and subtle aesthetics in nature, art, and literature, and Zen, the philosophy of life.
