In the heart of Toulon, French artists Lisa Bravi and Romain Joly invite visitors into Mistralou—a dreamy, wind-kissed reading room presented at the Design Parade. Inspired by the local Mistral wind, this soft, tactile installation is crafted primarily from fabric, employing clever trompe-l’œil effects to mimic bookshelves and furnishings.
The space gently sways as if the breeze has come to play, with velvet windows, quilted walls, and textile alcoves that stir the senses. Collaborating with skilled French craftsmen, the duo utilised luxurious materials from renowned houses such as Pierre Frey and Lelièvre, as well as bespoke sisal flooring from Codimat. Mistralou transforms an old bishop’s palace into a peaceful sanctuary where design, texture, and imagination meet.

Lisa Bravi and Romain Joly operate at the intersection of textile art and immersive scenography. Bravi focuses on domestic environments, fabrics, and subtle forms, while Joly incorporates spatial design and storytelling to highlight the materiality. Their collaborative installations often feel both intimate and vast, as demonstrated when they transformed a Provençal villa's reading room with quilted-velvet walls, flowing curtains, button-covered furniture, and a hint of the mistral wind.
Their design language explores the tension between stillness and movement, history and craft, materiality and fleeting moment. Each piece acts as poetic fabric-based architecture, inviting viewers to experience a space moulded by air, texture, and light. They are renowned for merging design, installation, and craft in innovative and unexpected ways.
