The Living Bridge at Green School Bali is a stunning example of how collaborative design, hands-on learning, and sustainable architecture come together. Co-designed by students, teachers, and Mizzi Studio, this open-air structure was constructed with over 300 locally sourced bamboo poles, hand-shaped using traditional craftsmanship. Its arched bamboo roof not only provides shade but also celebrates Balinese indoor-outdoor living.

The space utilises innovative eco-materials, including terrazzo with crushed glass, eco-crete bricks, lime plaster, and mycelium panels. Designed as a place for talks, workshops, and parent-led events, it also connects to a digital platform built by students. “We became designers and changemakers,” said a participant. The Living Bridge demonstrates that education can create more than just knowledge—it can foster lasting, meaningful experiences.

Jonathan Mizzi, founder of Mizzi Studio, talks about humanity’s greatest challenge —the climate crisis —and how we can design our way out of it.

Mizzi Studio

Mizzi Studio is an interdisciplinary architecture and design practice rooted in community, culture, and climate, with studios in London and Malta. Their practice believes in the innate power of architecture to create positive social and environmental change: they craft spaces and infrastructure that are beautiful, resilient, and human-scaled.

Drawing inspiration from nature’s forms and processes, they blend digital design techniques with material craftsmanship — from copper cladding to tactile timber surfaces — to create environments that nourish the spirit and inspire wonder. With a portfolio spanning educational, cultural, and commercial sectors, Mizzi Studio approaches each project holistically, guiding from concept to completion, ensuring architecture serves as a vehicle for community engagement, climate-responsiveness, and lasting quality.

Mizzi Studio
