Contributors & Submission Policy

Last updated: 01//01/2026

Art and Materials Lab welcomes submissions from creators, artists, designers, architects, makers, studios, and researchers—globally, across roles and identities.
We want information to flow freely, without hierarchy—but never without responsibility.

We publish materials-first, process-first stories: what something is, how it’s made, and why it matters. We value the unseen detail, the honest constraint, the tested claim.

What we’re looking for

Strong fits

  • Projects, works, prototypes, experiments, and material-led research

  • Craft, fabrication, repair, reuse, and circular practices

  • Process notes: iterations, failures, constraints, and trade-offs

  • Sustainability claims only when evidence is available (sources, tests, certifications, methods)

Not a fit (usually)

  • Pure press releases or copy written for marketing outcomes

  • Unsupported “eco” claims, vague performance claims, or unverifiable data

  • Hate, harassment, discrimination, or content that exploits people or communities

  • Confidential, private, or non-consensual documentation

Formats we accept

  • Feature story/project profile

  • Interview

  • Review (exhibition/event/book/product)

  • Research note (materials, methods, sourcing, references)

  • Opinion (must be clearly declared as Opinion)

We may reframe your submission into a different format if that improves clarity and reader value.

What you must provide (submission checklist)

To review your submission, please include:

A. Basic context

  • Title (or working title)

  • Short description: what it is / where / when / who

  • Location and date (where relevant)

B. Credits (required)

  • Creator(s), studio(s), collaborators

  • Fabricator(s), supplier(s) (if shareable)

  • Photographer(s) / image creator(s)

  • Commissioner(s), institution(s), gallery/venue (where relevant)

C. Rights + permissions (required)

  • A clear statement confirming you own the rights or have permission to publish

  • Any restrictions (embargo dates, credit lines, caption requirements)

D. Evidence for technical claims (required when used)

  • Source links, references, test reports, certifications, or methodology notes

  • If you state a sustainability claim, include how you know (and what you don’t know)

E. A responsible contact

  • Name + email of the person who can approve edits, verify facts, and confirm rights

Optional (but encouraged)

  • Process notes, drawings, material specs, behind-the-scenes documentation

  • A short contributor bio + website / social links (if you want them published)

Image + media guidelines (practical)

  • Provide captions that add context (not just credits).

  • Keep file names clear (ProjectName_Photographer_01.jpg).

  • If you cannot share high-res files at first, send a link to a folder for follow-up.

We do not publish images if the rights are unclear.
